Since 1972, the Lotus Festival has celebrated Asian and Pacific Island culture during the annual blooming of the lotus at Echo Park Lake. The festival's cuisine, dance, and art (paper-cutting, calligraphy and hand-painted scrolls) all exemplify Eastern tradition. The festival is probably best known for its dragonboat races, at which teams roar across the lake as members of special divisions for college kids, elected officials, corporate sponsors and members of the media.
